Overview

Originated sometime during the late 1980s and later the 1990s, the name of the car is a portmanteau of "Sil(via)" and "1(80)SX", hence "Sileighty"/"Sil80".

The idea behind the concept is that owners would sometimes choose to replace the front of their 180SX with parts from the Silvia—usually after the result of a car crash, due to the parts of the Silvia being more cheaper than the 180's. The styling also went pretty popular since then, especially among street racers as well.

Eventually later in 1998, a Japanese used car dealership/tuning shop under the name of "Kids Heart"(きっずはあと) began producing "official" versions of the Sileighty cars under the approval of Nissan, with approximately 500 units have been made. These cars were based on the "kouki"/late model versions of the 180SX which differs by having a unique "SILEIGHTY" badging on them, from the rear garnish to the quarter window pillars.

The Sileighty was also well-known for being featured in Shuichi Shigeno's "Initial D" too, where it was used by the female duo "Impact Blue"—Mako Sato & Sayuki.

Variations

The most popular front end of choice for the Sileighty is often the front of an S13 Silvia. However, other models such as the S14 and the S15 also exists too for the build, thanks to the S-chassis platform being mod-friendly to many tuners alike.

There also exists a reverse version of the car too called the "Onevia"(180/One eighty + Silvia) which is essentially a Silvia fitted with a front end of the 180SX. Interestingly enough, this variation actually came standard with the North American-specification "240SX" coupe model, as the Silvia front end didn't pass regulations there regarding to height level of the head lamps.
